Walter Peissl

Walter Peissl holds a PhD in social and economic sciences and has been Deputy Director of the Institute for Technology Assessment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ITA) in Vienna since 1990. After studying business administration and sociology at the University of Graz, he worked from 1984 to 1988 on consumer policy issues at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Youth and Consumer Protection and the Association for Consumer Information. Since 1988 he is one of the first scientific staff members at the Research Centre for Technology Assessment, from which the ITA emerged.

His work focuses on the new information society, the protection of privacy and methodological issues of technology assessment. He has already participated in or led projects in practically all of ITA's subject areas. His list of publications includes several books and numerous articles on a wide range of topics.
